E.I. Harmadzhev's apartment house
Detailed description
The building was built in the early 20th century, in 1905. The project was developed by Stepan Popilin. The Art Nouveau building was known as the Astoria Hotel. It belonged to Peter Vasilyevich Khakhladzhev– a merchant of the 1st guild. He leased his building to Martiros Sarkisov, who opened a hotel here. It was respectable, and generals and other White Guard leaders often lived there. During the Civil War, the building suffered a fire, which took away a significant part of the decoration and the upper floors. The building itself has been restored. During the Great Patriotic War, a hospital was located in the building. Now the Shoe House and the Don Military Historical Museum are located here.
