Soldiers ' Synagogue Building
Detailed description
The Soldiers' Synagogue is the only functioning synagogue, built in 1872. The synagogue burned down during the 1905 Jewish pogrom, but the building was rebuilt in 1913-1914. In 1935, the synagogue was closed for worship. After the Great Patriotic War, the building was returned to the Jewish community. The Soldiers' Synagogue has received the status of a cultural heritage site of regional significance. The architecture of the Soldier's Synagogue contains elements of Art Nouveau and oriental style. The building has a complex composition in the plan. The volumes of the three parts of the building are reduced along the north-south axis. The windows of the synagogue's facade have semicircular ends. The upper openings have bindings with a patterned Gothic rose. The base of the synagogue is covered with rustication. The main volume ends with a massive cornice and a blind parapet, at the corners of which are four domes decorated with stars of David. The facade is decorated with stucco rosettes.
