The building of the Catherine Women's Gymnasium
Detailed description
The building was built in 1892, and was named after the founder of the city, Empress Catherine II. At first, the building had two floors. In 1894, the church of Catherine the Great Martyr was opened in the building. It is a brick, three-storey building with a multi-pitched roof, has a complex configuration. The writer M.S. Shahinyan studied at this gymnasium, and a memorial plaque with the text was installed on the facade of the school in memory of this. Academician M.V. Nechkina also studied. Nowadays, the lyceum is located in the building. Nearby you can see Frunze Square and the Museum of Local History of Russian-Armenian friendship.
