Church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos
Detailed description
The stone Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was built in 1744-1746 on the site of an ancient wooden monastery that existed before that. In 1814, the temple composition on a high plinth was rebuilt in the classical style and included a three-light quadrangle topped with a traditional pentagon. An altar apse with rounded corners adjoins the main part from the east, and a small vestibule from the west. It has a staircase for descending to the lower temple. A stone fence with a wrought-iron fence around the perimeter of the temple was built in 1850. It was closed on November 29, 1929, when the weddings and the upper tiers of the bell tower were destroyed. A printing house has been located here since 1944. The building of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary does not belong to the Orthodox Church and needs restoration.
