* Yes, Kostroma's Holy Trinity Ipatievsky Monastery is known primarily as the cradle of the Romanov royal dynasty. It was here that Mikhail Romanov, who laid the foundation of this dynasty, hid from the detachments of the Polish invaders during the Time of Troubles, and it was from here that he was called to the kingdom. However, historical ties with the royal family are not the only reason to visit this most famous landmark of Kostroma. There is still debate among historians and local historians about the exact date of the monastery's foundation, but they all agree that Hypatius is one of the oldest monasteries in northeastern Russia. It is here that the oldest preserved stone buildings in Kostroma are located. Here you can also see one of the masterpieces of Russian painting of the 17th century - the painting of the walls of the Trinity Cathedral, made by the famous "isographs of Kostroma city" under the direction of Gury Nikitin.
