Description

* The Chapel of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is a symbol of Novosibirsk, an Orthodox chapel on Krasny Prospekt. Construction of the chapel began in 1914 to mark the 20th anniversary of the construction of the railway bridge over the Ob River. In 1913, on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the Romanov House, the Charitable Society applied for permission to build a chapel named after St. Nicholas. Renowned architect Andrey Kryachkov worked on the project for free. It was a national construction site. The chapel was solemnly consecrated in December 1914. In Soviet times, the chapel was closed. Then, in 1991, a procession was held to lay the chapel and consecrate the foundation stone of the restored chapel. In 1993, the chapel was built again on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Novosibirsk. The chapel stands on a plinth. A mosaic image of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is installed on the semicircular arch above the entrance.
