Syrovar Kostroma
Detailed description
A new point on the cheese map of the country is the House of the Kostroma cheese maker.
The historic, beautiful three-storey red brick building of the 19th century with a cast-iron balcony made Kostroma residents and visitors sad for many years. But two years ago, Kostroma restaurateur Alexey Metelkov bought it out and restored it to its former appearance – he carried out an amazing restoration according to the existing sketches. Now the Kostroma Cheese Maker's House has opened there: a restaurant, a cheese shop and, in fact, the cheese factory itself.
The building was built in 1815, at the end of the 19th century and before the October Revolution, the Bolshaya Moskovskaya Hotel was located here. In the first-class restaurant, they say, the only female brass band in Russia at that time played in the evenings. And in December 1904, at a banquet hosted by the liberals, on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of judicial reform, Yakov Sverdlov delivered a speech exposing autocracy. After 1917, the former hotel housed the Gubernatorial finance department, the provincial committee of the Russian Communist Youth Union, and later various departments and departments of the city administration. Starting in the summer of 2023, a new point of attraction on the Cheese Map of Kostroma will open on one of the busiest tourist routes on Mira Avenue.
The Syrovar Restaurant is the first cheese restaurant in Kostroma, the cheese capital of Russia.
The family restaurant "Syrovar" with antique stained glass windows and a grand staircase is located on two floors at once: on the ground floor there are several tables with children's rooms, with a magic screen and construction kits, and the main communal table for family celebrations, and on the second floor there is a grill area (open kitchen) with a large wood–burning stove and grill. Cheese dishes are baked right in front of the guests, and fragrant meat is made over coals. All the interiors are stylish, dignified, elegant, made with respect for the most historic building.
"Cheese Shop" with its own cheese factory.
The Kostroma Cheese Maker's House has its own operating cheese factory, where you can see how the cheese ripens behind the glass, as well as the production shop itself and part of the technological
