Detailed description

The house on Svetlanskaya Street, known as the House of Books, was built in 1903 by architect Ivan Meshkov. The eldest of the brothers, Mikhail, took the initiative in the construction. The building housed the city's first bookstore and many outlets that belonged to the Pyankov family. The building is made in the traditions of late classicism with rich decor. The main volume has the shape of a parallelepiped, with gentle ledges along the edges of the main and side facades, covered with a tower-shaped attic. The main facade has a symmetrical axial configuration.
