Merchant S.F. Gench-Ogluev's house
Detailed description
The house was built in 1883. The building was considered the first multi-storey apartment building in Rostov-on-Don. On the ground floor there were commercial premises, and above there were offices and apartments. At one time, there was even a printing house of the newspaper "Priazovsky Krai". After the arrival of Soviet power, the building was nationalized. During the war, the roof of the building was destroyed. In 1948-1949, the restoration of the building took place, the project was led by architect G. O. Kalaijana. Despite this, the original appearance was lost, there were some changes, namely: the tower was lowered and already without a spire (with a seahorse) on top, brick dormer windows. The balconies that were lost were also not restored. The building has a U-shape and four floors, the last floor is an attic. The facade is richly decorated with Baroque decor. Roosts and sandriks are elements of classicism. The drawing of the turret on the pediment is borrowed from the Gothic. The house has the status of a cultural heritage site of federal significance.
