Guards Corps Headquarters Building
Detailed description
This building was built in 1837-1843 according to the design of A.P. Bryullov and is a monument of classical architecture. It became the last element of the ensemble of the Palace Square, completing the perspective from the east side. There are 12 powerful Ionic columns on the upper part of the facade, and vertical bas-reliefs between the windows on the lower part. Inside the building, the magnificent lobby, decorated with coffers and Doric half-columns, attracts attention. The facade of the Guards Corps Headquarters building is used to place large-scale murals during celebrations on the Palace Square.
