Wickenheizer Apartment Building
Description
Architectural style: Classic
* The first three-storey house on Oktyabrsky Prospekt is an architectural monument and an object of cultural heritage of regional significance. The house was built in 1879 at Georg Frantsevich Wickenheizer's own expense. The old address is Sergievskaya Street. At the end of the 18th century, Sergeyevskaya Street got its name from the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh on Oktyabrsky Prospekt, not far from the Wickenheizer House. This piece of land at the beginning of Sergievskaya Street, along with a brick factory, a sawmill and several yards, was owned by an enterprising merchant of the 1st guild. Afanasy Ivanovich Ranvid was the provincial architect in Pskov during this period. The main facade of the three-storey Wickenheiser house has a large basement facing the red line of the street. In the center of the building there is a bay window, which is the basis of the canopy of the main entrance and the balcony of the third floor. Georg Frantsevich Wickenheizer took these features into account, so a three-story building was built with a theater hall and an annex. The owner and his family settled here, renting out part of the house's area for benches and shops. The two upper floors of the house were built with high ceilings and large halls. They were to be used as ceremonial, theatrical or ballrooms. Professional theater companies and individual artists came to the city on tour, performed in the halls of the Wickenhauser House.
