Cathedral
Description
* The Cathedral, or Dome Sanctuary of Our Lady and Immaculate Adalbert, is one of the most recognizable symbols in the Kaliningrad region. The cathedral complex is located on the island of Immanuel Kant. The date of the cathedral's foundation is considered to be 1333, when Bishop Johannes Klare began the construction of the episcopal court. The main building was completed in 1380, but the finishing work continued later. The Konigsberg Cathedral has three huge naves, massive Gothic vaults and two austere towers on the western facade with a carved wooden altar. Immanuel Kant is buried here in the cemetery. The largest organ complex in Russia is located here, consisting of two organs — a large and a small choir.
