We will take a walk along the edge of a freshwater swamp caught amid an urban area and learn how nature and man can cohabit in harmony. We will start with a biking tour which will lead us to the Škocjan Inlet Nature Reserve and continue with a 2,2 km long walking tour followed by degustation and animation. Afterward we will bike back to Koper taking another way. Our visit to the Slovenian largest brackish wetland will teach us the immense ecological, botanical, and zoological value the Nature Reserve holds. The Škocjan Inlet offers brackish and freshwater habitats as well as bird habitats, which nest during winter and stop during migration in this inlet in large numbers. You will learn that Škocjan Inlet is one of the most important nesting places for herons, water rails, great reed warblers, Eurasian reed warblers, common terns, and black-winged stilts. You will be free to observe them on our walking path. In the wet meadows, the vegetation is balanced by Podolian cattle and Camargue horses grazing. The special infrastructure for the observation will allow us to admire the green heart of Koper, and the fauna and flora of the inlet up close. We will take some time to observe and photograph different birds and to regenerate your body and spirit in this natural environment. There, it is also possible to observe the underwater world. You will be invited for a degustation of local dishes and to partake in an entertaining quiz about the Inlet to repeat the knowledge we gained on the trip.
