The Birth of Christianity in Armenia
Type of accommodation:Hotel
Meeting at the airport with a sign (arrival preferably before lunch). The tour will begin with a visit to Zvartnots Temple — the name has a poetic translation of "Temple of the Watchful Angels". The place is no less inspiring: ruins with several columns remain from the early medieval building, but even today one can feel the grandeur of Zvartnots and the harmony of the temple with the views of the mountains. Next we will go to the city of Etchmiadzin. The first target here is the Church of St. Hripsime, named after the Armenian martyr. The guide will tell you about its fate and about the architectural features of the church, which has stood on this site since the 6th century in its original form. Of course, the program includes the Etchmiadzin Cathedral, the main temple of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the world's first Christian cathedral. You will hear his story and generally learn about the birth and development of Christianity in Armenia. Lunch in Etchmiadzin. Sightseeing tour of Yerevan, during which you will see the monument to David Sasunzi, the hero of the Armenian folk epic, which tells about the struggle of the heroes against the Arab invaders, Akhtanak Park (which means Victory in Armenian), where the majestic monument "Mother Armenia" is located and offers a beautiful view of the whole city, the Cascade Architectural Complex in at the base of which is the obelisk "Reborn Armenia", fascinating with its architectural composition, the Opera House, which is an architectural monument of the city of Yerevan. Walking tour along Northern Avenue to Republic Square. Transfer to the hotel. Check-in. Free time.
day 02
A trip to the SOUTH. A date with Mount Ararat…
Type of accommodation:Hotel
Breakfast at the hotel. Check out of the hotel with your belongings. We will go to meet the sun of the Ararat Valley, ancient monasteries and delicious Areni wines! You will admire the panoramas of the vineyards and the fiery cliffs. Follow the path of Christianity in Armenia in the monasteries of Khor Virap and Noravank, learn about the principles of building Armenian shrines and touch the history of the Stone Age in a cave in Areni. We will stop at the places that impress you so that you can take photos and just enjoy the beautiful views. At the foot of Ararat, on the banks of the Araks River, you will find yourself near the powerful walls of the Khor Virap temple and learn about the ancient capital of Armenia, Artashat, and the role of George the Illuminator in the development of Armenian Christianity. Then the mountain serpentine will lead us to the land of the ancient traditions of Armenian viticulture — Areni. We will take a look at the local historical landmark — the Areni-1 bird cave, which has existed for more than 5 thousand years. Walking through the karst halls, you will hear about the excavations that have allowed you to find the oldest evidence of the first settlements in this area, including the world's oldest leather slipper and the oldest winery in the world, with a full cycle of wine production. Next along the route is the Noravank Monastery, which stands on a plateau surrounded by the outlandish red cliffs of the canyon. You will understand the uniqueness of the image of God the Father and the Church of St. Karapet, understand the peculiarities of Armenian architecture of the Middle Ages and stone slabs "khachkar". You will feel the beauty and energy of this place, and we will add new knowledge to your impressions, share the legend of the construction of Noravank, tell you about its historical path and the symbolism of the stairs. You will also find the Shaki Waterfall, which is considered one of the most picturesque waterfalls in Armenia. It is associated with the legend of the beautiful Shaka, who threw herself off a cliff, unwilling to obey the will of the conquerors. During the fall, the girl's dress opened in the wind and turned into a waterfall. The Shaki Waterfall was named after her. Departure to Goris. Check-in at the hotel.
day 03
The unforgettable Syunik
Type of accommodation:Hotel
Breakfast at the hotel. Check out of the hotel with your belongings. Exit to the excision. Goris, one of the most ancient cities of the country, is located on the eastern outskirts of the Syunik region of Armenia. According to historical data, the first settlements near the Vararak River arose in the period BC. Until the beginning of the 20th century, the people who inhabited the area lived in caves of natural origin. Over time, the need for them disappeared, and Goris began to acquire a more civilized shape: a new one was added to the old part of the city — designed by foreign architects and embodied by local architects in compliance with national construction technologies. Khndzoresk is a complex of ancient buildings carved out of the rocks, in which people still lived less than 100 years ago. We will walk over the suspension bridge to look at the cave city, as if hanging on the steep slopes of a deep gorge. Then we will move to the village of Tatev, fly along the longest cable car in the world "Wings of Tatev", stretching over the gorge of the Vorotan River — it offers unforgettable views of winding serpentines and high mountains. At the top of the cliff, you will find the Tatev Monastery, a complex where a university and a book depository were located in the Middle Ages. You will be amazed at the craftsmanship of the craftsmen who built the local churches, and you will find the best viewing platform. Departure to Yerevan. Check-in at the hotel. Free time.
day 04
Armenian Switzerland
Type of accommodation:Hotel
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for an excursion. Let's start the journey by visiting Lake Sevan, the most beautiful lake in the country, hidden in the mountains. Here we will visit the ancient Sevanavank Monastery, built in the 8th century and included in the UNESCO Cultural Heritage List. Before entering its vaults, you will have an interesting climb up the long staircase, which is located on the peninsula. There is a magnificent view from there — Lake Sevan will be as if in the palm of your hand. Our tour of Armenia will continue with a visit to Haghartsin Monastery, which is surrounded by the greenery of forests and the shade of majestic mountains. You will notice it from afar, because the whiteness and grandeur of the high walls cannot be overlooked. This is the pearl of Armenian architecture. It is not for nothing that the name itself means "The Game of eagles", proud and strong birds. And indeed, it's just impossible not to feel like you're in a fairy tale here. The next point in the group tour of Armenia is Dilijan, which is also called "Armenian Switzerland". You will walk along the oldest street, admire the architecture and visit the Mimino monument. You will touch the story of this unique hero and smile, remembering the good movie and its iconic phrases. Return to Yerevan. Free time.
day 05
Ancient Armenia
Type of accommodation:Hotel
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for an excursion. On the way to the temple, we will stop at the Charents arch — from here we can see Ararat in all its glory. On the walls of the monument are the words of the Armenian poet who confessed his love to the beautiful peak. When we get to Garni, it will seem that we are in Athens, and in front of us is the Acropolis. It is the only pagan shrine preserved in Armenia, built according to the canons of Greek architecture: columns, a roof with a triangular pediment and a wide staircase. The temple stands on a hill, from where you can see vineyards and mountains. The next point of the route is the Garni Gorge. Garni is the only pagan temple in the entire post—Soviet territory. You will hear its rich history, explore the ruins of the Royal Palace and the Roman bathhouse with a mosaic of thousands of pieces of natural stones. You will also climb to a high plateau and enjoy the view of the picturesque gorge of the Azat River! The rocks here have a bizarre shape of narrow pillars and are called a "Symphony of Stones" because they resemble organ pipes. We will admire the wonder of nature and go to the Geghard monastery of the 4th century, carved from marble monoliths and as if it grew right out of the ground. According to legend, the "Spear of Destiny" was kept here, with which a Roman soldier pierced the heart of the crucified Jesus. We will walk through the cave cells, look into the chapel carved in stone, and go downstairs. Return to Yerevan. Lunch, Transfer to the airport. Departure.
