Description
Type: Single-day activity
Duration: 4.5 hours
* Let's start our journey from the place where Konigsberg Castle was founded in 1255 and later three cities — Altstadt, Lebenicht and Kneiphof, which gave rise to Konigsberg. You will learn how the local landscapes have changed, where the Loeb River has gone, where the storyteller Hoffmann was born, and how the Koenigsbergs discovered that a real witch lives in their city.
On our way to Kaliningrad, we will stop at the fortress gates, defensive towers, bastions and other fortifications of the old city. We will visit places associated with Baron Munchausen, Peter I, Immanuel Kant, areas of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including the famous Amalienau, where you will feel the spirit of that pre-war Konigsberg.
We will visit the "place of power" — the mysterious Juditten Church, which once attracted pilgrims from all over Europe. It is now the oldest building in the city. You will find out what was unusual and attractive about the church.
In addition to the mystique of Konigsberg, you will also find its delicious history — the history of Konigsberg marzipan. What this sweetness had to do with the city and why Konigsberg was considered the marzipan capital of Germany, we will find out in the Marzipan Museum. And also with how marzipan returned to Kaliningrad and became one of the brands of the already modern Amber region.
In one of the old districts of Konigsberg, we will visit homlins, mysterious creatures who have revealed a funny, unusual and unsmiling history of modern Kaliningrad.
Stories about Baron Munchausen, about the old catfish under the High Bridge, about the name of the Honey Bridge — this will fill our way to the Fishing Village and further along the Island of Kanta with the Cathedral.
The cathedral is the resting place of the Grand Masters of the Teutonic Order, the music of one of the largest organs in Europe, the Immanuel Kant Museum and, along with the island itself, one of the favorite vacation spots of Kaliningrad residents. It connects the past of Konigsberg and the present of Kaliningrad, which is exactly what makes our city so attractive.
