Description
Type: Single-day activity
Duration: 2 hours
* Germany's northernmost city of Flensburg is located on a picturesque fjord in the Baltic Sea. One shore of this fjord belongs to Denmark.
And Flensburg itself is already half a Danish city. All the inscriptions in the city and the menus in the restaurants are in two languages — German and Danish. There are Danish schools and churches, libraries and theaters. For more than 400 years, the city belonged to the Danish Crown.
Danes come here as if they were at home: to shop, fill up their cars, and sit in restaurants. It's still Germany, and it's much cheaper than Denmark.
Flensburg is an ancient port city with beautiful architecture and is the capital of German rum.
Since the 18th century, there have been many manufactories producing this strong drink. The raw materials for it were imported from the Danish colonies in the Virgin Islands.
Rum brought Flensburg wealth and fame. It is still produced in the city today, but not in the same quantity as before.
Nevertheless, the drink is sold on every corner. You can taste it in the shops and the rum museum. And not only classic rum, but also vanilla, berry, chocolate.
The city is also known for its Flensburger beer.
And in Flensburg, in 1962, the world's first sex shop was opened! Its owner was Beate Uze, a German female pilot and entrepreneur. Germany's first and only female stuntman in the 1930s. Later, she was even awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, and in 1999 she was awarded the title of Honorary citizen of Flensburg. But the Beate Uze Museum of Eroticism is not here, but in Berlin.
During the walking tour, we will stroll through the old town, look into the former merchant courtyards that hide behind the facades of houses on the central streets, visit the picturesque embankment of the Flensburg Fjord, where the old sailors' taverns have been preserved, visit the church of St. Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors and travelers, visit the free rum museum, where we will taste it, see the house where Hans Christian Andersen stayed when he visited Flensburg, and much more, will appear before
