* Since ancient times, religion has been an integral part of human daily life. The rector of the church was not only a spiritual father and pastor who took care of his parishioners, but it was in the church that the most important events of a believer's life took place - baptism, communion, marriage, confession, funeral service.
In Russia, churches and temples were built to mark joyful and sad events. And the beauty and architectural style of the churches were associated with the significance of the event and the architectural style of the city and the era.
In our tour, we want to tell you, first of all, about the local saints, whose fame and fame have spread throughout Russia.
We will start our tour with a visit to the Blessed Xenia Chapel. Let's also talk about the Smolensk Orthodox Cemetery itself, one of the oldest in St. Petersburg, admire the joyful architecture of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ, and worship the miraculous icon of the Smolensk Mother of God.
Continuing our journey around Vasilyevsky Island, we will definitely visit St. Andrew's Cathedral to see the unique iconostasis, one of the oldest preserved in St. Petersburg. It was in front of him that the first reigning rulers of the city prayed.
Then we will visit one of the oldest churches in St. Petersburg - the Church of the 3rd Saints and see the icon of the Sign of the Blessed Virgin Mary, presumably painted by Viktor Vasnetsov himself. This is a gift from donors from the Academy of Fine Arts.
Next, we will head to St. John's Monastery, where we can venerate the relics of St. John of Kronstadt.
We will end our tour with a visit to the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, the construction of which began by decree of Peter the Great and with his direct participation. Let's talk about Alexander Nevsky, the patron saint of St. Petersburg, the Annunciation Church, the original tomb of the Romanov family, and visit the Trinity Cathedral.
