🔹 The Yusupov Palace on the Moika Embankment is a monument of history and culture of federal significance.
Five generations of the noble family of the Yusupov princes owned the palace from 1830 to 1919. The Yusupov family's wealth was compared to the imperial one, and the primacy was often reserved for them.
The Yusupov family roots go back to the distant Middle Ages.
On the princely coat of arms, the Muslim ancestor Khan Yusuf left his mark in the form of a crescent moon.
In the 18th century, the Yusupovs converted to Orthodoxy and their surname received the Russian ending "-s".
The Moika Palace is one of the four Yusupov palaces in St. Petersburg.
The encyclopedia of the St. Petersburg aristocratic interior.
The carefully preserved and recreated interiors of the palace amaze with their sophistication and beauty. It has not only formal and living quarters, but also its own theater, which still welcomes the audience.
The palace preserves the two-hundred-year history of the family, which is closely connected with Russian history. Men, being nobles and statesmen, served for the good of the Motherland. The women who were recognized as the most beautiful at the royal court shone in the light.
Shrouded in mysticism and incredible legends, the murder of Grigory Rasputin, the "holy elder" who became close to the family of the last emperor Nicholas II at the beginning of the 20th century, took place in this palace. The tragedy took place on the night of December 17, 1916, in the residential area of the young Prince Felix Yusupov.
Today, along with the largest museums in St. Petersburg and its suburbs, the Yusupov Palace is invariably included in all routes for both Russian and foreign tourists.
