Description
Type: Single-day activity
Duration: 1.5 hours
* Florence's outstanding ensemble near Palazzo Pitti is an ideal place for an easy and informative stroll in the shade of 400—year-old oaks and Napoleonic plane trees, ancient obelisks and coffee houses, manicured flower beds and gazebos. On 4.5 hectares of elegant park, I will draw your attention to the details that will reveal the history of Tuscan fashion and trends from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. I will introduce you to the history of the creation and further improvement of Boboli Gardens, as well as tell you about the differences in the concepts of Italian, French and English gardens.
What awaits you:
• The concept of the garden in Italian.
Walking through the beautifully manicured grounds, you will learn about the main ideas of the Renaissance, embodied in the organization of the garden and park space. Let's talk about the stylistic division into the 16th century zone and the Baroque area, as well as the approach to the location of the ensemble relative to the Pitti Palace. In addition, I will tell you about the features and main differences of different European garden concepts — Italian, French and English.
• The history of the creation of the ensemble.
Looking through the milestones of the park's creation, let's start from afar — from the 15th century, when the Florentine aristocrat Luca Pitti bought the land. Jumping over a century, you will find yourself at the origins of the garden. I will tell you about the architect Niccolo Tribolo, the author of the project that became the prototype for the royal parks of Europe. And the subsequent changes that each of the Grand Dukes of Tuscany, and later Lorraine, made to the landscaping of the garden.
Details of the park and illustrations of Tuscan fashion
Near the grottoes of Moses and Buontalenti, we will talk about the fashion of the 16th century for unusual things, and at the monument to limonov — Limonaye — about the appearance of fashion for citrus fruits. You will learn how the quarry turned into an amphitheater and became a model for the Luxembourg Gardens in Paris. You will see the original Egyptian obelisk with an age of 3 thousand years; fountains "Artichoke" and "Pitchfork"; plane trees planted in the Napoleonic era, as well as a pond with an artificial island and statues. You will walk along the cypress street and the gallery of curved stone oaks.
