A visit to the Pskov Museum Reserve's art gallery is an introduction to the provincial painting collection of Russia's oldest museum. The location itself is interesting – in the historical center, in the building of the former art and industrial school, built at the beginning of the 20th century with the charitable funds of Nikolai Fedorovich Fan der Fleet. Future artists studied there, so the halls and spaces are designed for the best viewing of works of art. Initially, the paintings were collected from private collections and gifts. After the Great Patriotic War, the fund was replenished with exhibits from the Museum of the Academy of Arts, the Petrograd Museum Fund, and the Russian Museum. The Pskov collection presents the history of Russian art from the 18th century to the present day. It contains works by the most famous artists of Russia: Bryullov, Tropinin, Repin, Benois, Savrasov, Ge, Dobuzhinsky and many others. Part of the gallery's exhibits is a collection of European paintings, graphics and sculptures.
