The maternity hospital, which was founded in 1771 at the Orphanage on donations from P. A. Demidov, is the largest multidisciplinary obstetric institution in St. Petersburg and a clinical base for medical universities in the city. In 1919, he was named after Professor V. F. Snegirev, one of the founders of gynecology in Russia. The maternity hospital also has a significant history, as in 1924 the first women's clinic in the city began operating there. The maternity hospital building was designed with high attention to layout and sanitary facilities, making it a Monument of regional significance.
