* In 1711, a Foundry yard was built on the banks of the Neva River, around which a settlement of artisans engaged in the production of cannons was formed. Domenico Trezzini developed a plan for the Neva River, which became known as the Moscow, or Russian side. The road that brought people from Moscow and Novgorod came here.
The Moscow part of the city runs from Nevsky Prospect on the left side of the Fontanka River down to the seaside and is separated to the southeast by the Ligovsky Canal, and further south by the vygonny moat.
Tsarevich Alexei Petrovich chose the Moscow side . He had to leave his beloved Moscow and move to the hated St. Petersburg, on the current Shpalernaya Street. Here the tsarevich hoped it would be easier to avoid constant surveillance, from here it would be more convenient to escape to the interior of Russia — there would be no need to swim across the Neva.
Following the Tsarevich, the Tsarevich's entourage and his employees began to ask for and receive places. This is how the palace was formed, or, as the first inhabitants called it, "Russian Settlement."
Ancient people lived here, who looked not beyond the sea, not into the Countryside, but deep into Russia, to Moscow, and looked forward only to the moment when, finally, they would be ruled in the old way.
A number of palaces have appeared here. The first was the palace of Praskovya Fyodorovna, then the palace of Tsarina Maria Matveevna, then the palace of Tsarevich Alexei Petrovich, and next to it, at the corner of present-day Chernyshevsky Avenue, Natalia Alekseevna's palace. We will start our walk from the building where he was located.
