Saltykov House
Detailed description
A mansion in the very center of St. Petersburg in 1788, which was presented by Catherine II to Field Marshal Nikolai Ivanovich Saltykov. The classical-style building was designed by Giacomo Carnegie. In this mansion, A. V. Suvorov has repeatedly visited the owner. In the summer of 1812, M. I. Kutuzov was chosen commander-in-chief of the Russian army in this house. The building, originally three storeys high, was repeatedly rebuilt according to the designs of famous architects Carl Rossi, Harald Bosse and K. I. Lorenzen. Saltykov's descendants leased the house to foreign embassies. The building is now occupied by the St. Petersburg State Institute of Culture and Arts.
