* In addition to the modernist style, our city is also famous as the capital of the shoemaker kingdom, because since the time of Peter the Great, and, one might say, to the present, the Kimr cobblers have been supplying the Russian army with shoes. The development of the village, and since 1918 of the city of Kimry, was associated with such names as Count Vorontsov, Count Litta, Yulia Pavlovna Samoilova, Skavronsky. Such famous people as aircraft designer A. N. Tupolev, writer A. Fadeev, M. Rybakov were born on the Kimr land. Peasant N. Nosov told A. Ostrovsky about fishing on the Volga, for which the writer awarded him the title of the only angler in the Kimry. Actress N. Sazonova spent her childhood years in Kimry, poet Mandelstam lived here in exile, philosopher M. Bakhtin and wrote one of his most famous works - the book Creativity of F. Rabelais and the folk culture of the Middle Ages and Renaissance A. Solzhenitsyn, having visited the Kimry, wrote the inhabitants of the Kimry (a large trading village already under Grozny) were, apparently, insatiably active and, after a series of landlords (the latter already foreigners) after a continuous fire in 1807, in 1846 they bought themselves free with land. However, it was not so much the land that fed them, as all kinds of crafts, especially shoemaking (since the XVI century), exhaust shoes. Shoes were transported from here all over Russia, the Kimry became famous as the shoemaker's capital, Russian soldiers marched their campaigns in Kimry boots under all the emperors.
