Description
Type: Single-day activity
Duration: 10 hours
* Sirmione is the most famous resort town on Lake Garda. The history of this picturesque town begins in the second millennium BC.
We will admire the ruins of the ancient Roman villa of the poet Catullo (Grotte di Catullo) with frescoes dating from the I and II centuries BC. These are the imposing ruins of the largest ancient Roman villa in northern Italy and a small archaeological museum is also open here.
The symbol of Sirmione is the Scaliger Castle, with high and battlemented walls, a wonderful dock and massive towers. Climbing the highest tower of the castle, you will see a picturesque panorama of the city and the water surface of Lake Garda.
We will also visit the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, built in the XV century and admire the frescoes of the same period.
The remains of the ancient church of San Salvatore are preserved inside the city gardens, and to the south of it is an ancient necropolis, excavated in 1998.
Staying near the villa of the famous opera singer Maria Callas, I will tell you about the story of her extraordinary life.
It is a pleasure to walk along the narrow picturesque streets in the center of the town, looking at old houses, churches, boutique showcases. There are shops of all kinds: souvenirs, clothes, shoes, accessories, gastronomic shops, wine and, of course, bars and ice cream parlors where you can relax.
And how can we not mention the famous baths of Sirmione with healing water, which are located in close proximity to the historical center. This is a real oasis of wellness with a wonderful view of Lake Garda, where you can, if desired, give yourself a few hours of relaxation.
