Description
Type: Single-day activity
Duration: 3 hours
* A large author's walking tour of the main squares of St. Petersburg for individual groups.
Are you in the city for the first time and want to embrace the immensity? Do you dream of making the Northern Capital closer and more familiar? Or maybe you are a resident of the city, decided to walk around familiar places and listen to the author's story in order to stop being a guest in your hometown? Then this big 3-hour guided tour is for you!
Route:
Our trip will start near the main temple of the city - Kazan Cathedral. Here we will find out why import substitution was first used in St. Petersburg at the beginning of the 19th century, which shrine is kept in the cathedral, and what the Masons have to do with it. You will learn how buildings from different eras get along on Nevsky Prospekt.
Near Singer's House we will look at the valkyries, we will figure out how the American eagle survived after the February revolution. Next to the church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, let us recall the tragic events of 1881 and find out whether Alexander II could have escaped death. Let's talk about apartment buildings, let's look into one of the front doors on Bolshaya Konyushennaya. We'll have a bite of delicious Leningrad crumpets and continue through the St. Petersburg courtyards to the Palace Square.
Let's count the number of Winter Palaces in St. Petersburg and find out why the palace was painted in the color of "bull's blood" before the February revolution of 1917. We will find out how the tram did not want to give in to the tram and why the tram appeared in the capital later than in other cities of the Russian Empire. Let's recall the events of the Great Patriotic War and find out how the Admiralty building and other dominants were preserved during the bombing of the city. Why did the sculptor depict hearts in the eyes of Peter the Great on the famous Bronze Horseman monument on Senate Square?
Why does the dome of St. Isaac's Cathedral bear a striking resemblance to the dome of the U.S. Capitol Building? Did Nicholas I prance on horseback, as depicted by the famous Peter Klodt, and what gifts did the emperor give to his children?
This and much more are on my author's walks through the center of St. Petersburg, where the three main squares of the Nevsky Triangle are located.
