Description

Type: Single-day activity
Duration: 2 hours
* A walk through the famous quarter of the left bank of Paris — Saint Germain des Pres. The name of the quarter is preserved from the name of the abbey of the same name, which was founded here in the 6th century AD. From the abbey, which was closed during the French Revolution, the magnificent, most ancient and recently restored, one of the most beautiful churches in Paris, the Church of Saint Germain des Pres, has been preserved to this day. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Saint Germain quarter was a place of pastime and meetings for all the world's bohemians who came to Paris in search of fame. Hemingway, Dali, Picasso, Apollinaire, Sartre, Beauvoir, Colette and many others visited the famous literary cafes and restaurants — De Mago, Flora and Lippe. Literary prizes are still awarded every year. Here is the amazing Fustneberg Square with the Eugene Delacroix house museum, which nearby painted the famous Saint Sulpice Church, made famous in the novel "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown. A small passage houses the oldest restaurant in Paris, Procope, opened by Sicilian Francesco Procopio in 1686 and known for its regulars — Voltaire, Rousseau, Diderot, Marat, Danton, Napoleon, Balzac, here for the first time Parisians were offered to taste coffee with ice cream. Here are the famous streets where Alexandre Dumas placed his heroes of the novel "The Three Musketeers", the famous Beaux Arts Academy of Fine Arts, the majestic Luxembourg Palace and the park, built in the 17th century by order of Queen Marie de' Medici, the old market is adjacent to luxury brand stores, and in many cafes and restaurants you can still see representatives of modern French bohemians and the elite. We will see all this and much more during our walk. And for Ukrainians (and not only) I will show you a cozy park named after the greatest Ukrainian poet, writer, novelist, artist and philosopher Taras Shevchenko, which houses his bust, made by Kiev sculptor Lysenko, installed in 1978.
