* Charming and peaceful Horta San Giulio is a small town on the shores of Lake Horta, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. The great Frenchman Honore de Balzac called this picturesque corner of Italy "a gray pearl in a green box." We will start our tour with a walk on the UNESCO-listed Sacro Monte di Horta mountain. You will explore 20 beautiful chapels, admire panoramic views of the lake and the island of St. Giulio, and also see scenes from the life of Francis of Assisi. Then we will go down a shady alley to the lake and the historical center, walk through the narrow medieval streets and the central square, look into the gastronomic shops with truffles, mushrooms and famous Piedmontese wines. In one of these shops they will make you the best panini (sandwiches) with cheeses and meat delicacies of your choice. We will take a boat to Dragon Island, which stands in the center of the lake. Today, only 80 reclusive nuns of the Mater Ecclesiae monastery live on this mysterious island. There is only one ring road on the island, which, if you move in one direction, is called the "Road of Silence", and if you go in the opposite direction, the "Road of Reflection". Walking along it, you will enjoy the tranquility and fresh lake air. The main decoration of the island is the Basilica of San Giulio, which houses priceless frescoes and the remains of the saint in a crystal coffin in a crypt under the altar. The legend of this place seems even more authentic due to a vertebra of considerable size found near the island, which is attributed specifically to the dragon defeated by the saint. Pacified by the tranquility and romance of the island, we will return to the town of Horta. By the way, Lake Horta is recognized as the cleanest lake in Europe, so in the summer, if you wish, you can swim in its cool, refreshing waters on the shore of one of the small natural beaches.
