Yayoi
Detailed description
In the Meiji era (1886 AD), the period marked by the ingress of Western influences into Japan, Tamijiro Shioi, after having completed his culinary studies in France, established the inaugural first "Yayoi" Restaurant within Tokyo's Kayabacho area. This first branch served Western-style dishes, all priced at a modest 1 yen per set.
With meticulous culinary craftsmanship, coupled with his art of serving meals in set menus known as "Teishoku", consisting of steaming hot rice, the staple of Japanese cuisine, complemented harmoniously with miso soup, a main dish, a side dish, and other accompaniments elegantly served together on a single tray, thus embodying the hallmark of "Yayoi". This distinctive approach has garnered widespread popularity among the residents of Tokyo. Esteemed literary figure Jun'ichirō Tanizaki and even the Prime Minister of the era had frequented its establishment.
As time passed, Mr. Tamijiro’s grandson, Mr. Sueyuki Shioi, inherited the business from his grandfather and has since expanded the restaurant to more than 360 branches* across Japan, with further branch expansions extending to various countries worldwide.
In establishing Yayoi’s branches in Thailand, MK Restaurant Group Public Company Limited aims to offer Thai customers with an accessible experience to savor the authentic flavors of Japanese cuisine at affordable prices akin to those in Japan. This vision was realized with Yayoi’s introduction to Thailand, with the first branch commencing operations on March 1st, 2006. Since then, there are more than 200 branches* nationwide. The Company has an unwavering commitment to further expansion, aiming to offer new experiences through diverse and creative set menus to cater to everyone's preferences.
