Description
Type: Single-day activity
Duration: 11 hours
* As part of the tour, we will not only visit Ruskeala, but also visit places that tourists often miss in an effort to get to the famous marble quarry faster.
Our first stop on the way from Petrozavodsk will be the Karelian village of Manga. There is a small chapel on top of the cliff. The Chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin was built at the end of the XVIII century. It is a unique architectural monument of the Pryazhinsky Karelians. The red stone, the classic base of the octagon on the quad, the careful study of the smallest details and the fabulous silence of the place where the chapel is located are impressive!
Next, we will get acquainted with the historical village of Kinerma. This village is more than 500 years old. Here we will see huge century-old wooden houses, a cult grove and the Church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God. And the descendants of those who stood at the origins of the most beautiful village in Russia will tell you about the history, way of life and traditions of the Pryazhinsky Karelians!
Then we will go to the shores of Lake Ladoga. The road to Sortavala district runs along the picturesque shore of the largest lake in Europe. Here we will make a stop and admire the rocky shores of the Ladoga Islands.
From the shore of the lake we will go to the mountain. Climbing a very pretty staircase to the top of Mount Paaso, we will discover the boundless beauty of the Ladoga taiga. There was also the medieval fortress of Karel, where they had been defending themselves from the attacks of the Swedes for centuries.
Well, the end point of the route will be the famous Ruskeala Park. The marble quarry, opened in 1766, today attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Republic of Karelia annually. Everyone is interested to see the marble used to build St. Isaac's and Kazan Cathedrals, palaces and museums, sculptures and metro stations in St. Petersburg! But outdoor enthusiasts will also find entertainment in Ruskeala. In the park, you can go down on a zip line, bungee jump or stroll through the dungeons.
