"World Industrial Center" The journey to Nizhny Tagil from Yekaterinburg takes less than 2 hours by Lastochka electric train. Upon arrival, you can immediately take a local tram to the Wagonka area. In the 1930s, a social city was built here under the leadership of Moscow architect Moisei Ginzburg. The House of ITR, a block of residential buildings for workers, a school, a club and a sauna are examples of post-constructivism in Soviet architecture. Two neighboring large factories form a brutal landscape. Throughout the twentieth century, the Soviet government built Nizhny Tagil as a counterweight to the regional center, so immediately after the Great Patriotic War, architects from Leningrad sent here created an ensemble that was not inferior in pathos and expressiveness to the capital. You can see this during a walk through the central streets of Nizhny Tagil. Nizhny Tagil, the "city of high culture," is associated with the Demidov dynasty of breeders and patrons of art. Thanks to them, the city has a museum, a collection of paintings, and a dynasty of artists whose works are kept in leading museum collections in Russia. In the twentieth century, graduates of the local art museum turned Nizhny Tagil into an important center of contemporary art. To explore the cultural heritage, you can visit the Museum of Local Lore and the creative cluster "Nugget". Then go out to the observation deck near the old Demidovsky factory, the only fully museumized factory complex in Russia in the XVIII - XX centuries. From the factory, we will climb Fox Mountain to gasp at the view of the city, the smoking factories and the Ural Mountains. You can complete the walk, depending on the weather, either by taking a ferry across Tagilsky Pond, or by walking along the embankments to the railway station. In winter, you can enjoy the illumination of the central streets.
