Friendship of the peoples of the USSR

The main fountain and one of the main symbols of VDNH, designed by Konstantin Toplitz and G.D. Konstantinovsky for the opening of VDNH in 1954. Located along the central alley of Peoples' Friendship Square, next to the main pavilion, it has a large octagonal pool measuring 81 by 56 meters. The fountain is mounted on a pedestal of red granite in the shape of a bowl made from bunches of wheat, industrial hemp and sunflowers. The 7.4-meter-high wheat bundle is made of a bronze plate hammered into a mold. It is surrounded by 16 female sculptures made of bronze and additionally covered with gold leaf.
