* 09:00 Departure for the tour. We will get acquainted with a unique cave temple complex: an active women's Orthodox monastery (17th century) in Kostomarovo. During a visit to the Kostomarovsky Spassky Monastery, the landscapes of the surroundings of which in places resemble those of Cappadocia, we will see: Mount Golgotha with a Cross of Worship, a cave temple complex. According to one hypothesis, the striking similarity of the Don underground monasteries with the ancient cave structures of Cappadocia suggests that Christians who fled the bloody persecution of the Roman emperors settled on this land as early as the 1st century AD. Later, in the VIII–X centuries, monks and icon worshippers fled from the persecution of the Byzantine Empire to Syria, Palestine, and the Caucasus. Along the road, part of which ran along the Don, they created cave temples in the depths of the Cretaceous mountains, spreading and strengthening the Christian faith in these parts. Lunch at a cafe. Next, we will visit the provincial county town of Ostrogozhsk, founded in the middle of the 17th century, which became famous as the cradle of prominent figures of Russian culture, science and art, which is why it secured the popular name "Voronezh Athens". The life and activities of numerous representatives of Russian culture are connected with this small town. During the tour, you will see with your own eyes the preserved merchant houses of the XIX – early XX centuries, which give the city a certain charm. Ostrogozhsky Historical and Art Museum named after I.N. Kramskoy; Kramskoy House Museum. After exploring the city, we will enter a unique art gallery for a provincial city. The gallery's art collection includes all genres of painting, but the portrait predominates. This circumstance is symbolic: the gallery was created in memory of the outstanding portrait painter I.N.
