* Wismar is a port city on the Baltic Sea. The historical center of the city with its mansions and temples in the brick Gothic style is a UNESCO cultural heritage site. The city has not changed its structure since the 13th century. 300 buildings are architectural monuments. After the Thirty Years' War, Wismar belonged to Sweden for a long time, as evidenced by some buildings and traditions in the city today.
In the Middle Ages, Wismar specialized in the trade of herring, beer, grain, hops and malt. Every year there is a big celebration in the city - "Herring Days". And Wismar beer was very popular in Portugal, Spain and Russia.
We will start our city tour from the old harbor, where fishermen have settled today. During the day, you can buy fresh and smoked fish directly from the boats moored here.
We will see the only preserved old brewery in the city, which you can visit after or during the tour.
We will walk along the shore of the oldest canal in Germany and admire the unusual house "Vaults".
We will visit the Church of St. Nicholas. On our way there will be a funny "pig bridge", the house of the mayor and brewer Shabelle, the first department store of the founder of the trading empire Rudolf Karstadt, the Town Hall Square, the Gothic quarter with its historical buildings and much more.
