Balaklava is a picturesque bay near Sevastopol with beautiful nature. In Soviet times, Balaklava was a completely closed facility, as there was an important strategic submarine repair facility there and a nuclear strike bunker was being built. Nowadays it is a quiet and peaceful place for tourists to relax. Balaklava Bay is small and looks more like a small lake, but its peculiarity is that it is not visible from the sea.
The barrel of death.
In fact, the Barrel of Death is only a small part of the Balaklava fortifications, part of the Southern Balaklava Fort. And it became known thanks to the legend that circulated in the sixties that it was from this "barrel" that the Germans dumped the executed Red Army soldiers, defenders of Sevastopol, into the sea.
The Genoese fortress of Cembalo.
Going on an excursion, you will visit not only the most important attraction, but also be able to climb to the top of Castron, the mountain on which the fortress is located.
The Southern and Northern forts of Balaklava.
The Southern and Northern Forts of Balaklava, magnificent examples of fortification art from the middle of the XIX-XX centuries, can become an object for an interesting and informative walking tour.
