Description
Type: Single-day activity
Duration: 10 hours
* The decline of the Roman Empire coincided with the heyday of Christianity in Antioch: Christians were not persecuted here, and after the death of the First Martyr Stephen, the persecuted Christians fled from Jerusalem to Antioch.
In the 1st century A.D., Antioch became the place of the baptism of the Apostle Paul, from here Paul went on his missionary journeys to Cyprus and other lands, and here, after the preaching of Paul and Barnabas, the first community of converted pagans of Ancient Rome was formed.
In the history of Christianity, Antioch has forever remained the city where, according to legend, just two decades after the death of Jesus Christ, his followers were first called Christians.
Ten Ecumenical Councils were held in Antioch, and the patriarch's residence was located here.
The city of Aegirdir is located not far from Antioch.
Egirdir is a city located in the southern part of the lake of the same name, overlooking Mount Davraz. Opposite the city center there are 2 small islands connected by bridges to each other and to the mainland.
The most important sights of Egirdir are the ruins of a castle built, according to legend, in the 5th century, the ruins of the ancient city of Spatiana, the crumbling walls of an old hotel and a Turkish army commando base, the Khizir Bey mosque and Mount Davraz.
