* The Marais quarter, which literally translates as a swamp, really was once. In the 11th century, these lands were given to the Templar Order, who drained and ennobled them. Until now, many streets in the quarter have preserved the memory of these poor knights of the Jerusalem Temple in their names — the street of the Old Temple, the street of White Clothes. In the 16th century, the quarter began to be inhabited by aristocrats. Here, on the site of the old Tournelle Castle — the place of the fatal injury of King Henry 4, the first royal square was broken, which has survived to this day, now it is the famous Place des Vosges. There are many private mansions in the quarter, which are occupied by museums, libraries, various institutions and even shops, preserved medieval streets, one of which is Jewish, churches, synagogues, courtyards, fountains, hidden gardens and just nice corners hidden from the eyes of tourists. We will see all this during our historical walk around the quarter, and I will also tell you about its famous inhabitants and their legendary stories! The walk can be complemented by a visit to the Museum of the History of Paris — Carnavale, Cognac (collection of the gallant era of the 18th century), the Pablo Picasso Museum or the Museum of the History of Judaism, which are located in luxurious private mansions of this quarter.
