Kanzhol is a peak on a plateau in the Zolsky district of Kabardino-Balkaria. The Balkarians claim that the toponym "Khan" - blood, "zhol" - road (bloody road) is associated with the victory of the Kabardians over the Crimean troops of Kaplan Giray in 1707. Kabardians have a different version.: "a metal plate." The Russian name of this area is "Dagger". From here, from an altitude of 2,850 m above sea level, there is a magnificent view of Elbrus from the north-eastern side and the Kyzyl gorge with its canyons and generously covered with forests. You will also see Shadkhurey ("round pool") - lakes of karst origin. They are unique in that so far not a single spring has been found that feeds them, and not a single river that would flow out of them. The secrets of the Shadkhurei have not yet been revealed: already at a depth of 50 meters, dangerous underwater currents prevent it from being explored.
