Imperial Moscow Post Office
Detailed description
The former Moscow post office was built in the 19th century. The new building of the Moscow Imperial Post Office was built in 1910. The Demidovsky courtyard, as it was then called, housed postmen, outbuildings, stables and various post offices. The rectangular facade was stretched along the street. The large windows are framed by simple arches. The decor of the street facade is broken only by a small central attic. The entrance to the building is located on the garden side. The original interior and layout have not been preserved: in the autumn of 1905, strikers clashed with the police in Demidov's courtyard, as a result of which many people were injured. A memorial plaque is installed on the house in memory of this event. House No. 40 on Myasnitskaya Street remained inhabited only until 1968, 14 apartments were occupied by postal workers. In 1948, a new house was built along the red line of the street and two neighboring houses were connected by an arch in the courtyard. The building is currently for rent.
