* It's a great country walk and a touch of the beautiful Renaissance! Équan Castle is a monument of the French Renaissance, built by the famous Constable Anne de Montmorency, a friend in arms of King Francis 1, in the middle of the 16th century. The castle was built on the site of a demolished medieval fortress surrounded by an extensive park that has survived to this day. In the first half of the 17th century, Équan passed into the possession of the Conde family, whose lands already included the Chantilly estate. During the French Revolution, the castle was confiscated, and in 1806, by order of Napoleon I, an orphanage of the Legion of Honor was opened in it, which existed there until 1962. Now the castle houses the National Renaissance Museum, with a rich collection of Renaissance works — creations by masters of France, Italy and Holland and representing various types of decorative art: furniture, wooden and ceramic products, carpets and embroidery, enamels and glass, stained glass and more. The pearl collection is a copy of Leonardo da Vinci's famous fresco "The Last Supper", painted by a disciple of the great master Mark d'Ogiono during Leonardo's lifetime in 1509.
