Apartment house of A.I. Shulgin
Detailed description
The house was built in 1908-1909 according to the design of engineer Mikhail Ivanovich von Wilken. Its architectural style is eclectic. Some researchers tend to consider their opinions about the authors to be erroneous. The building is designed too well, at the level of the best architects. The original owner of the house was Alexander Ivanovich Shulgin, but already in 1913 another owner was named. Merchant Sergey Ivanovich Shakhnazarov (Ivanov) for many years kept the famous confectionery at the company "S. Ivanov" on the Theater Square. Having bought a house on Tavricheskaya Street, he continued to live on Teatralnaya Street, not being seduced by the view from the window. The facade of the six-storey building is decorated with patterned metal lattice balconies. The powerful figure of Atlas supports the platform of the second-floor balcony. Above the windows is a semicircular cornice filled with rich stucco. The corners of the house have rounded domed roofs with spires. In 2001, the house was included in the list of newly discovered objects of historical, scientific, artistic or other cultural value.
