* Dolceacqua ("pure water") is a delightful medieval town, the birthplace of one of Italy's most recognized and famous red wines, Rossese, the favorite drink of Napoleon and Pope Julius III. This village is spread out on the mountain slopes, with the ruins of Doria Castle towering over it. Moreover, it resembles one of the traditional Ligurian presepi (Christmas decorations).
A picturesque medieval town with narrow stone streets and tall houses. The local Doria Castle was built in the 11th century and was owned by the Doria family. The castle was badly damaged after the earthquake in 1887, but it is still visited.
The height of elegance here is the old Ponte Vecchio bridge, which divides the two quarters of the city of Terra and Borgo by the Nervia River. The bridge is a simple double-pitched arch, built in the 15th century. The tomb of the Doria family is located in the crypt of the church of San Giorgio (13th century). It's an amazingly beautiful town and well worth a visit.
