* When you arrive in Novgorod, be sure to visit the Rurikovo settlement. We recommend this point of the tourist program to anyone who is not indifferent to the history of our country. The Rurikovo settlement is a historical place located at the sources of the Volkhov River, the history of Novgorod, and Russian statehood. Now it is just the high bank of the Volkhov River with the ruins of the Church of the Annunciation of the 14th century and one of the most picturesque views in the vicinity of Novgorod. And in the 9th century there was an oak fortress here, the residence of the first Russian Prince Rurik. In the following centuries, the Novgorod princes lived on the Rurik hillfort, in 1570 Tsar Ivan the Terrible conducted his court over the Novgorodians here. On the way, you will have the opportunity to visit the Church of the Savior on Nereditsa, a temple with a difficult fate, where 12th—century murals and ancient graffiti inscriptions on the walls have been preserved, as well as stop at the Church of the Savior on Kovalev Field. Nearby there are two more interesting monuments of a later time - the pillars of the bridge over the Volkhov and Sivers Canal, which was unfinished during the First World War.
