* The amazing city of Luneburg near Hamburg has retained its medieval charm. Narrow streets with red brick houses intricately diverge in all directions and invite you for a walk.
More than 1000 years ago, a salt deposit was discovered in Luneburg, which was indicated by a wild boar. The city became rich in the salt trade, and the wild boar became a highly revered animal in Luneburg.
During a walking tour of the Hanseatic city of Lüneburg, we will visit the Church of St. John the Baptist, the square on the sand, see the "black house" and the first townhouses of northern Germany. We'll stroke the tummy of the "pregnant house" and, of course, we'll see the magnificent Town Hall, which was built over several centuries and is an unusual jumble of various buildings.
We will find out why part of Luneburg is settling down, and what the great German poet Heinrich Heine and the equally great composer Johann Sebastian Bach did in the city.
We will visit the picturesque embankment of the Ilmenau River and the smelt market. We will see the old historical crane and the abbey mill.
After the tour, you can have a delicious lunch in one of the many restaurants or cafes in the city. Luneburg is one of the five German cities with the largest number of restaurants per capita.
If desired, you can visit the beer museum or the salt Museum.
