day 01
Murmansk
Type of accommodation:Hotel
The meeting of the group will take place at 12.00 in the city center at the Park inn Polar Dawns hotel.
We will get to know each other, discuss the plans and program of the tour. Let's tell you what will happen today and how to catch the Northern Lights. We have a lot of locations ahead of us, exploring the harsh tundra, roads, the ocean and waiting - but this will only make our meeting with the shining even more desirable! Our journey begins.
Murmansk is the largest city in the world, located beyond the Arctic Circle. We're going to meet him today. There is one important feature of this "other" polar world - the polar day and the polar night.
In early spring, the daylight is very short, about three hours, so we hurry to the first point of our inspection - the Kola Bay and the bridge of the same name crossing it. We'll find a beautiful location and hear about its purpose.
The next location is a symbol of the development of the Arctic and the Murmansk port – the nuclear icebreaker Lenin. It is now a museum. We'll explore its bulk at the pier and we can go on a guided tour. We will also explore the Murmansk port, the sea gate of the North.
For dinner, we will try to get to the best restaurant in the city – Tundra.
Lenin is Alyosha.
When it gets dark, we drive to the city park near Semenovsky Lake, where the largest and most important monument of the Great Patriotic War, Alyosha, is located. He meets the ships on the way to the port. In the evening, it is especially beautiful in the spotlight. It also offers a beautiful view of the night city and the bay.
We go to the hotel, and if the forecast is favorable, then we go hunting for the aurora.
day 02
Teriberka
Type of accommodation:Hotel
After having a hearty breakfast at the hotel, we check the possibility of driving along the Cola road (it is often blocked due to bad weather - the harsh north), stock up on necessary supplies (remember that we are going to a village in the far north) and hit the road. The distance is short, 130 km, but it can be slow (from two to four hours).
And here we are in Teriberka! After checking into the hotel, we look at the surroundings in the old and new parts of the city. Here the winter tundra on the shores of the Barents Sea connects, traces of the former turbulent human activity both at sea and on land. Here we will see urban and natural landscapes familiar from Zvyagintsev's Leviathan painting. There are many places to visit on our list, but the main thing is the atmosphere. Life here is harsh, and the village would definitely have died out if it weren't for the tourists.
Earlier (until the mid-60s of the XX century) fishermen lived and worked here on their small longboats, then, for purely economic reasons, fish began to be caught and processed at sea on large vessels, and all the fishing villages of the north began to die out. Many died out, some live on the verge of extinction, and only Teriberka was a little more lucky – now it is a Mecca for tourists in the North. We will be able to see the remains of ships, and old houses and other traces of the past.
In addition to the village itself, today we will visit the pebble beach "dragon's eggs", a waterfall and an observation deck over the ocean.
Fast-changing weather is an integral part of life on the ocean, but hot tea and local tinctures will keep us warm.
And for the hottest ones, we have a unique offer – winter swimming in the north Sea itself. Don't be afraid, the temperature of the Barents Sea is +6 degrees (which is much warmer than swimming in an ice hole in the middle zone), and there is a warm locker room and shower on the beach for you. So this is the most comfortable walrus in the Arctic Circle.
In the late afternoon, we will visit the Northernmost restaurant, and then relax at the hotel or take a leisurely walk. Towards nightfall, we set off again in search of the desired twinkle in the sky. It's easier to find it here than in the city.
day 03
Teriberka whales Murmansk
Type of accommodation:Hotel
After breakfast, we go on a boat trip to the lighthouse and search for whales. Yes, whales often come to Teriberki Bay for food – shoals of fish; and here there is an opportunity to see them next to the ship. Maybe we'll get lucky.
After the boat trip, lunch and we head back to Murmansk. We check into a familiar hotel and relax.
The best Northern cuisine awaits us in the evening.
day 04
Murmansk - Kirovsk
Type of accommodation:Hotel
Breakfast and back on the road.
Mountains are waiting for us. Khibiny. This is an amazing compact mountain range in the middle of the tundra. And in the center of these mountains is Kirovsk. That's where we're going. After four hours of travel, we are in Khibiny.
We will live right at the foot of the mountains in the pension Tirvas. There is everything for recreation and entertainment: a cafe and a bar, a swimming pool and a sauna, cross-country ski rental and snowmobiles. The northernmost Arctic Botanical Garden and the Snow Village are located nearby.
We check in and discuss our future plans over tea. Remembering the cold, blue sea, we prepare to go to the mountains. Contrasts await us: after a warm pool and sauna, a hearty dinner and, of course, hunting.
In the evening, we go out on foot to hunt for the northern Lights.
day 05
Kirovsk
Type of accommodation:Hotel
Early ascent today - the mountains are calling! We have breakfast and head to a comfortable ski resort. There is entertainment for everyone.: snowboarding, downhill skiing, cheesecakes, cross-country skiing, or just climbing in an enclosed gondola to the observation deck. The Khibiny mountains, although not high (about 1200m), are impressive for their steepness, since the city itself is located in a lowland, the ski resort trails have different levels of difficulty and are quite long.
After rolling over, we meet for lunch, share our impressions and catch our breath.
Now we have a little surprise waiting for us - let's take a walk in an open-air fairy tale and feel like children.
And again we are going to admire the now night lights of the city from a height over an elegant dinner. However, the method of delivering us to the panoramic restaurant will be no less interesting – when the lifts are already closed, visitors will be transported by a snow truck.
By tradition, we set off again in search of the cherished colors in the sky. The sky in the mountains is closer, and it doesn't matter if there are a scattering of stars or a wind of magnetic particles in front of us, the spirit of the magical northern air is full of magic at the end of this eventful day.
day 06
Kirovsk
Type of accommodation:Hotel
A new day means new activities.
We are going to cut through the tundra and conquer the passes on snowmobiles. For those who wish, after the briefing, he will curb the iron horse himself.
After a new trip, we go to the sauna to warm up, have a delicious dinner and relax. And in the evening, as usual– to hunt.
day 07
Kirovsk skating
Type of accommodation:Hotel
Today, the day is entirely dedicated to skiing or snowboarding. We spend the whole day riding on the best slopes: Bolshoy Vudyavr or Kukisvumchor, walking, collecting impressions in our luggage, thanking the North for allowing us to contemplate its riches.
At dinner in the evening, we summarize the results.
Those who are in a hurry can leave Apatity today.
day 08
Kirovsk - departure
Type of accommodation:Hotel
It's time to say goodbye. We exchange contacts and visit souvenir shops if desired. Someone has a plane from Murmansk airport, someone from Apatity, and someone goes by train and continues to enjoy the Karelian landscapes, smoothly changing them to St. Petersburg.
We hope that after this adventure you will want to return to this cold, harsh, but magical corner of our planet.
