* The name of the region "Altes Land" translates as "Old Land". It is located along the Elbe River south of Hamburg. The largest fruit plantations in Northern Europe are located here. This area is a magnet for tourists, especially in spring when the gardens are in bloom. In summer, strawberries, cherries, and apples are celebrated here. Altes Land is known for its half-timbered houses with white beams, reed roofs and original brickwork. For a long time, elegant white gates have been placed in front of the houses of wealthy owners, which spoke about the well-being of the owner of the house. The Dutch drained and settled Altes Land in the 12th century, which is still visible today: Dutch mills, many canals and white wooden bridges over the canals. Driving through the region, you can buy fresh local fruits at every corner. Local traditional dishes include Altland wedding soup and warm egg beer. We will start the tour from the town of Buxtehude, which lies on the German "fabulous road". The fact that this city is associated with fairy tales is indicated by the numerous figures of a hare and a hedgehog from the famous fairy tale, which took place here. You will learn many interesting facts from the history of the city, and why dogs bark with their tails in Buxtehude. Then we will head to the capital of Altes Land — the city of York, see the old Dutch mill and the "hearty apple yard", stroll through the elegant and neat streets of the city. Then we will visit the picturesque villages of Mittelkirchen and Steinkirchen with their original churches. Each of the villages has its own interesting and tradition-rich history. Endless apple orchards will accompany us all the way. We will definitely fortify ourselves with dishes of traditional farm cuisine in one of the colorful restaurants along the way.
