Altai Tavan Bogd National Park (mong. Altai Tavan bogd baigaliyn tsogtsolbor gazar, the Natural complex of the five shrines of Altai) is located on the territory of the Bayan-Ulgiy aimag in the western part of Mongolia. It shares borders with Russia and China.
The territory of the national park includes the ridges of the Mongolian Altai with vast tracts of kurums, high-altitude forests, meadows and semi-deserts, lakes and river valleys. Kuyten-Uul Peak, the highest point in Mongolia (4,374 m), rises to the north of the park. Near it is the Potanin Glacier with an area of 19 km2, which, along with other glaciers, feeds rivers flowing into the Basin of Large Lakes. In the park itself there are large lakes Khoton Nuur, Hurgon Nuur and Dayan Nuur - you will be lucky to see all these lakes on this trip.

day 01
Day 1. Chui highway to the Mongolian border.

Meeting of the expedition participants in Gorno-Altaysk. The first day of the expedition will take place along the ancient Altai route — the Chuisky tract – one of the most beautiful roads in the world. Its history goes back centuries. This road was once a pack trail, a branch of the Great Silk Road. Currently, it is the main transport artery of Gorny Altai, which has preserved numerous traces of the peoples who lived here. In the evening, we will have a hot dinner and a sauna. Overnight at the guest house in Chagan-Uzun village.
day 02
Day 2. Tashanta checkpoint. Crossing the state border.

The main task for today is to get to Mongolia. We go through all the formalities of the migration services. And here we are in Mongolia. Snack on delicious Mongolian mantas (boozy) in the roadside cafe of Ulaanbaishint village (Red Yurt). We continue moving towards the border town of Ulgiy. Evening departure to the high mountain lake Tolbo Nuur. Overnight in the Mongolian city of Ulgiy at a yurt campsite on the banks of the Khovd River.
day 03
Day 3. Tsagan Gol river valley. Altai Tavan Bogd National Park.

After breakfast, we go to the supermarket to buy the necessary products and then go to the picturesque valley of the Tsagaan gol River. Tsagaan Gol is a milky river. The name of the river is translated from the Mongolian language as "white water". The water of Tsagaan Gol is white, which is due to its glacial origin. The sources of the river are located in the Tavan-Bogdo-Ola mountain range. The river originates from the Potanin Glacier, the largest in the Mongolian Altai, and is the largest tributary of the Khovd River. A snack on the way to the village of Tsengel. There are stops at viewing platforms throughout the route. Overnight in a tent or yurt campsite, depending on the circumstances. There is no possibility to book due to the lack of communication and light.
day 04
Day 4. Trekking to the Potanin Glacier

The next morning we start moving to the Potanin Glacier, to the base camp at the 3,140 m pass, near the Tabyn-Bogdo-Ola massif. The pass offers an excellent mountain panorama, headed by the Kuyten-Uul peak (Nairamdal), 4374 m, the highest point of Mongolia. The largest glaciers in Altai, Potanin (19 km) and Alexandra (10.8 km), drain from the Tavan-Bogdo-Ula massif. Overnight at the campground.
day 05
Days 5 and 6. Mongolian lakes Khoton and Khurgan nuur.

The purpose of today's trip is the Khoton-Nuur and Khurgan-Nuur lakes. The lakes are located at an altitude of 2083 meters above sea level, on the territory bordering China. On the way to Khoton Nuur lake, we visit the ancient cemetery – Zirat, in the center of which stands the Khulbai mausoleum and the memorial complex of the ancient Turkic period Shara-Bulak. We stop at the lake for the night. Fishing enthusiasts can catch large Mongolian grayling on the channel between the lakes. Overnight in a tent camp or at shepherds.
day 06
Days 7 and 8. Dayan nuur.

Today we are moving to Dayan Nuur Lake. At the Khar-Chuluutyn davaa pass (2,553 m), the watershed of the lakes, you can enjoy a magnificent view: the lake stretches like a blue matte surface; behind the lake there are waves of scorched red mountains, behind them stands a wall of snow-white peaks. After the pass, you will have a fascinating tour of the steles, balbals, and Pazyryk burial grounds. Dayan Nuur Lake is large, 17 km long. In some places, the mountains approach the water itself. There is a Dayan outpost on the southern shore of the lake, guarding the road leading to Xinjiang, China. There is a unique monument on the territory of the border post – a stone statue of Dayan Batyr. We set up camp on the shore of the lake.
day 07
Day 9. Mogoit Basin.

After breakfast, we return to Lake Khurgan Nuur by a familiar route. We continue moving along the wide Mogoit basin. Ahead of you is the desolate Shara-Gobi basin, where even the air seems to melt in the heat. We stop for the night on the banks of the Khovd River at the foot of the Zurkh Uul mountain junction. Overnight in a tent camp or at shepherds.
day 08
Day 10. Return to the city of Ulgiy.

In the morning, we continue along the Khovd River, On the way we continue exploring the ancient archaeological sites and to the village of Tsengel. In the evening, the road leads us to the town of Ulgiy. Overnight at a yurt campsite on the banks of the Khovd river.
day 09
Day 11. Tsagaannuur checkpoint. Border crossing.

In the morning we drive along the familiar road to Chagan-Uzun. After completing the documents at the Tashanta checkpoint, we get to Russia. Behind us is an amazing and diverse country, its history and archeology, culture and nomadic way of life. Overnight in a guest house in the village of Chaganuzun. Bathhouse.
day 10
Day 12. Return to Gorno-Altaysk.
Type of accommodation:Not included
Transfer to Gorno-Altaysk. We will visit sightseeing sites that we have not visited yet. Geyser lake, Shirlak waterfall. Farewell to the band.
