Description
Type: Single-day activity
Duration: 2 hours
* Travemünde is a resort town located just 20 km from the center of Lübeck.
At the beginning of the 12th century, a small village of fishermen and sailors appeared at the confluence of the river Trave with the Baltic Sea. In 1187, Count Adolf III of Schauenburg built a fortress here to protect against attacks by Slavs and Vikings.
Since the 19th century, the rapid growth of resorts in the Baltic Sea began. Travemünde, with its 4.5 km long sandy beach, has become an ideal place to relax. A sanatorium, hotels, casinos, and a boardwalk were built here, and life began to boil over.
Steamships from Copenhagen, Riga, St. Petersburg and other cities docked in Travemünde every day. The connection with tsarist Russia was especially important for the resort. Many rich Russians came from there, who were happy to spend their money in Travemunde.
During the tour of Travemünde, we will get acquainted with the history of the city and its life today, feel not only the aristocratic spirit of the resort, but also the preserved charm of the cozy village of fishermen.
After the walk, you can, of course, swim in the sea (in summer) and have lunch at one of the many seafood restaurants.
