Description

Type: Single-day activity
Duration: 3 hours
* Kuzminki is an interesting architectural and park ensemble of the late XVIII - early XIX centuries, the largest estate near Moscow in terms of the number of objects, now located within Moscow. It was once called the "Russian Versailles of Princes Golitsyn" and "Moscow Pavlovsky". A cascade of ponds was laid out here, in the Churilikha riverbed, more than 200 years ago. Around the manor complex there were large economic complexes, as well as a huge park consisting of two parts (regular and landscaped) and turning into a forest. During the Stroganov estate's ownership, Peter I visited the estate. During the time of the Golitsyn princes, Empress Maria Feodorovna, Emperors Nicholas I and Alexander II visited here. Kuzminki was also visited by the poet V. Zhukovsky and the writer F. Dostoevsky, the artist V. Perov. Despite significant losses, more than 20 architectural monuments have been preserved in Kuzminki. The composition of the ensemble and the architecture of most of the buildings correspond to the Empire style. Some buildings have features of the "neo-Egyptian" style and are unique to Moscow. A whole galaxy of famous architects worked in Kuzminki — I. Zherebtsov, R. Kazakov, I. Egotov, A. Voronikhin, the Gilardi dynasty, M. Bykovsky, as well as sculptors I. Vitali and P. Klodt. The most significant buildings were executed by the outstanding architect Domenico Gilardi. On the tour, we will see all the main buildings of the estate: the wings of the Main House, the Egyptian Pavilion (Kitchen), the Orange Greenhouse, the gardener's House, the Servants' and Hospital wings, the Hospital, the Cattle yard, the Stable yard and the Music Pavilion, the Poultry yard and the House on the dam. We will find out what the main house, which burned down in 1916, looked like and where the lost objects were located — Cast-iron gates, the Propylaea pavilion, monuments to Peter I, Nicholas I and Empress Maria Feodorovna, etc.
