Guardian Council
Detailed description
The building, which housed the Board of Trustees in pre-revolutionary times, was erected between 1823 and 1826. It is decorated with Ionic orders. The portico of eight columns is decorated with a frieze and a triangular pediment. The colonnade stands on a podium with a base and entrance arches. The building is crowned by a dome on a large drum with semicircular windows. The sculptural design was made by I. P. Vitali and S. P. Campioni. The arch of the main meeting room is decorated with relief paintings by P. Ruggio. Previously, reception and administrative offices were located here. Two wings are connected to the main building by a stone fence. They contained living quarters for employees. There were outbuildings in the courtyard. The building is now occupied by the Russian Science Foundation.
